ICN Accredited ICNP Research & Development Centre in Iceland

ICN Accredited ICNP Research & Development Centre in Iceland is located in the Faculty of Nursing, School of Health Sciences, at the University of Iceland in Reykjavík. The overall mission of the centre is to establish a network of nurses, health care and educational institutions and other stakeholders in Iceland to develop, translate, disseminate and use the International Classification for Nursing Practice (ICNP) in education, research and nursing practice. By this the Centre will contribute to the progress of ICNP, strengthen and advance nursing, and use of ICNP will inform health care practice and policy to improve nursing nationally and internationally, as well as conforming to the eHealth vision of ICN. Centre goals include:

  1. Be an active participant in the development of ICNP
  2. Update and provide accessible Icelandic translation of ICNP
  3. Implement ICNP in nursing practice in all health care institutions in Iceland and thereby into the electronic health record
  4. ICNP will continue to be reflected in nursing curricula and taught to nursing students
  5. Promote and support nursing research to advance the development and enhancement of ICNP and
  6. Define needs for technical solutions and give advice on which technical support is needed at implementation and use of ICNP in electronic health records and which apply international standards.
