Lesotho Organisational Development Project (ODP)

What is the Lesotho ODP?

For over 10 years, the Lesotho Nurses Association (LNA), Vårdförbundet and ICN have worked together to implement the Lesotho Wellness Centre project thanks to the funding from the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA) through Union to Union. As well, the same stakeholders were involved from 2014 to 2016 in the Leadership in Negotiation project that included six countries in Africa.

In 2017 there were two separate one-year projects. One project focused on the development and strengthening of the LNA and the other project supported the Lesotho Wellness Centre (LWC). An external evaluation was conducted in late 2017 and several areas of improvement were identified, notably the measurement of objectives achieved, reporting, etc. Union to Union welcomes the proposed improvements that result in the governance hereafter described.

For the period 2018-2022, it was decided to create one overall project to develop and strengthen the Lesotho Nurses Association - the Lesotho Organisational Development Project (ODP).

OBJECTIVES

The project has 3 main objectives:

  • Lesotho Nurses Association (LNA) – strengthen the capacity of the LNA to support and protect the health workforce in Lesotho, especially nurses and midwives, and the LNA will have significant voice at policy and decision-making tables.
  • Recruitment officer – increase membership aiming at self-sustaining the LNA.
  • Wellness Centre – the LNA and related healthcare worker groups will have access to essential healthcare services and occupational protections.
