The International Council of Nurses’ governing body, the Council of National Nursing Association Representatives (CNR) recognised the Taiwan Nurses Association (TWNA) and the National Association of Nurses in El Salvador (ANES) with its National Nursing Association (NNA) Innovation Award.

The Award recognises innovative and successful strategies that increase inclusiveness, diversity, and creativity for the NNA and/or for the nursing profession.

The TWNA was given the award for its selection and financial support of participants on three nursing leadership programmes, and for its evaluation of those programmes, which are the ICN Global Nursing Leadership Institute, the TWNA Nightingale Nursing Leadership Institute, and the ICN Leadership for Change Programme within TWNA.

The ANES received its award for implementing the Competencies and Skills through Specialisation and Certification of Nursing Professionals programme, an innovative and inclusive project in El Salvador. The project has been very well received by nurses in the country as it fulfils their training needs in the specific specialties it covers.

ICN’s outgoing President Annette Kennedy said:

“The NNA Innovation Awards gives recognition to the exceptional work of two of our NNAs. Through their hard work, they have helped to advance the profession in their countries and, by doing so, improved the lives of nurses and their patients. I congratulate the TWNA and the ANES for their outstanding work, and praise all of our 130-plus member NNAs for their incredible fortitude over the past two years, and for the support they have provided for their nurses during the pandemic.”

The CNR oversees the organisation’s policy and admission of members, sets its dues and selects its board of directors. 113 of ICN’s member nursing associations were meeting virtually for the first time between 4-6 October 2021. Results of the elections for the new ICN Board of Directors 2021-2025 was announced on 6 October.
