Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern by the World Health Organization

The International Council of Nurses (ICN) stands in solidarity with the nurses, other health workers and population of the Democratic Republic of Congo against the outbreak of Ebola which has been declared an international public health emergency by the World Health Organization (WHO). According to WHO, the disease has taken the lives of 1,650 people in the DRC.

ICN’s President, Annette Kennedy, made the following declaration: “Nurses are at the frontlines of the Ebola outbreak , putting their lives at risk to care for others. ICN supports WHO’s call for international funding to stop this outbreak and protect the health workers, families and communities caring for those who are suffering."
