International Federation of Nurse Anesthetists (IFNA)

The International Federation of Nurse Anesthetists (IFNA) is an international organisation representing nurse anesthetists serving the public and its members. The mission of the federation is dedicated to the precept that its members are committed to the advancement of educational standards and practices which will advance the art and science of anesthesiology, thereby supporting and enhancing quality anesthesia care worldwide. The IFNA establishes and maintains effective cooperation with stakeholders that have a professional interest in nurse anesthesia.

The IFNA has developed international standards of Education, Practice, Monitoring, a Code of Ethics, and model curriculums for educational programs. The IFNA Approval Process for Anesthesia Programs (APAP) evaluates and approves anesthesia programs for nurse anesthetists and other non-physician anesthesia professionals. The IFNA has collaborated with the ICN on development of Guidelines on Advanced Practice Nursing dedicated to Nurse Anesthetists.

The IFNA is affiliated with the ICN since 1997. IFNA is an active member of the G4 Alliance for Surgical, Obstetrics, Anesthesia and Trauma care.
