FNIF is the International Council of Nurses (ICN) premier foundation, it supports and complements the work and objectives of ICN. Its purpose is to support the advancement of nursing education, research and services for the public good. Its signature project is the Girl Child Education Fund (GCEF), which supports the primary and secondary schooling of girls in developing countries whose nurse parent or parents have died, paying for fees, uniforms, shoes and books.
The FNIF Endowment was launched in 2015 to support the expansion of the Girl Child Education Fund. The Endowment Fund aims to raise $10 million over three years.
