Florence Nightingale Anniversary Rose planted

JapanEmperorEmpressplantingFN_RoseTokyo, Japan, 28 September 2009...On 28 September, FNIF was greatly honoured by the Emperor and Empress of Japan who planted the Florence Nightingale Anniversary Rose in the gardens of the Imperial Palace. Dr Hiroko Minami, ICN President from 2005-2009, and Setsuko Hisatsune, the current President of the Japanese Nursing Association, presented the rose to their Excellencies and were invited to the Palace for the planting.

Sarah Brown (centre), wife of UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown, joined former ICN President Christine Hancock and Florence Nightingale Museum Director Caroline Worthington, to plant the Florence Nightingale Anniversary Rose on the occasion of International Nurses Day. Mrs Brown was also presented with the new Florence Nightingale Anniversary Rose for the rose garden at No 10 Downing Street. The rose was developed by Jackson & Perkins for the Florence Nightingale International Foundation – the premier foundation of the International Council of Nurses.
