Attendance at the GNLI is by application and selection.
Applicants need to meet the required criteria and demonstrate the capacity, motivation and vision to undertake senior leadership development. A high level GNLI Advisory Committee invites applications annually, some ten months before the annual GNLI in September.
ICN takes the opportunity to contextualise the GNLI annually through focusing some parts of the GNLI programme on selected contemporary theme(s). The contemporary theme selected for the 2012 GNLI is Increasing Access and Equity through Leadership - Taking action on NCDs and the MDGs With the UN's and ICN's focus on non-communicable diseases, particularly taking into account the UN Political Declaration on Non Communicable Diseases in September 2011, this is a timely topic to have global nurse leaders learn how to participate and take action in this worldwide campaign. This theme also fits well with the required impetus as we move towards the target date for achieving the Millenium Development Goals. This theme offers opportunities for national, regional and international consideration.
