ICNP® Translations

Translations are essential for implementing ICNP® in practice. The translations are usually accomplished on a voluntary basis by nurses in cooperation with the National Nursing Association. At the beginning of any translation project, ICN asks that the ICNP® Programme be contacted so that permission to translate ICNP® can be granted and a Translation Agreement can be signed.
For permission to use ICNP® see: http://www.icn.ch/icnp_permission.htm

Translations in Brazil-Portuguese, French, German, Greek, Icelandic, Italian, Mandarin, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Spanish, Swedish, Thai and Turkish are in process. These translations of ICNP® are a vast undertaking and ICN is grateful for the work of all nurses and others involved in this important endeavour.

Translation Guidelines for International Classification for Nursing Practice (ICNP®) are now available. The Guidelines provide conceptual information about translation, methods of translation and cross-cultural equivalence.  This is followed by more specific guidelines/directions for translation which are designed to support nurses and others who work on translation of ICNP® to their own language.  ICNP® Translation Guidelines [ How to Download pdf files, 100 KB]

The ICNP® Browser and Translation Tool (BaT)
The ICNP® Browser and Translation Tool (BaT) was developed by a number of researchers at the German-Speaking ICNP® Centre. The software tool assists distributive work by translation teams via the Internet. For further information on the tool, contact the ICNP® Programme and see the article by U Schrader, P Tackenberg, R Widmer, L Portenier, P König, The ICNP-BaT – A multilingual web-based tool to support the collaborative translation of the ICNP®. In K Kuhn et al. (Eds), MEDINFO 2007, IOS Press, 2007, 751-754. ICNP® Browser and Translation (BaT) Tool http://www.icn.ch/icnp-pres2007/open-sourceGerman.pdf  How to Download pdf files

Ulrich Schrader has created a manual for the ICNP BaT. It can be found at: http://docu.icnp-bat.de/doku.php
The manual is realized as a wiki, as it is intended to reflect work in progress, and can be maintained collaboratively.
