Candidates for Director General of the World Health Organization

At the Seventieth World Health Assembly (22-31 May 2017), Member States will vote in a new Director-General, who will take office on 1 July 2017.  ICN has been in special relations with WHO since its inception, including lobbying for its creation, and we continue to work closely with WHO on many issues of concern to nursing and health.  As such, we have been lobbying for some time for the reinstatement of the positions of Chief Nurse Scientist at WHO as well as a greater participation of nurses in the decision-making process.  IN April 2017, ICN write to the Candidates urging to ensure that nursing input is included in the development and implementation of WHO’s global plans and priorities.  We also signed a letter from the new Nursing Now campaign.  Below you will find the letters and responses from the candidates.
