There will be a meeting of the student network in Malta as part of the ICN conference. It will take place from 12:00 to 13:30 on May 7th in the Vassilis Hall. The network provides an important global voice for student nurses and provides a recognized platform for students to address key professional issues.
The existing leadership group will provide an update on progress since Durban in 2009. This will be followed by two presentations on students influencing policy. These will focus on the experience within their region and also highlight the benefits and challenges of student engagement in policy setting and decision making. This will be followed by environmental scanning and discussion of the future goals of the network to set the context for the coming two years.
Nursing Students Assembly - This is not a network function but may of interest to students and network members
The ICN Congress Student Assembly will be held on Wednesday 4 May 2011 from 09:30 to 13:00. Simultaneous interpretation will be provided in English, French and Spanish. The Assembly provides nursing students enrolled in basic nursing education programmes (first entry level) the opportunity to meet and explore priority issues. In addition, the students are given the possibility of presenting a summary of their discussions to the ICN Council of National Representatives.
While this meeting will be facilitated by ICN, the students themselves develop and implement the assembly. Students contributed to the development of the programme agenda and student representatives from Malta will chair the Assembly.
