Providing appropriate care of terminally ill and dying people currently poses an enormous challenge to both health care and social systems. Palliative care in Austria has one main concern and that is to offer the target groups extensive availability of both palliative primary care and specialized palliative care in hospices. The creation of an endowed professorship allows the above-mentioned challenges to be addressed and to promote the development of palliative care. Moreover, it is important to research the general conditions of care to ensure integrated patient care is provided.
At the Paracelsus Private Medical University in Salzburg (Austria) a Master's degree in Palliative Care with an average of 100 students has been successfully offered for seven years. To extend the research portfolio an
ENDOWED PROFESSORSCHIP FOR INTERDISCIPLINARY RESEARCH IN PALLIATIVE CARE
will be appointed at the earliest possible date. The appointment will initially be a fixed-term contract until 2019. An indefinite appointment is planned.
