Nursing Education Network Meeting
There will be a meeting of the Nursing Education Network from 11:30- 12:50 Wednesday 22 May in Plenary Room 3 of the Conference Centre. The session will be moderated by Dr Virginia Adams, Chair of the Network core steering group and speakers will be members of the network core steering group. There will be interpretation available in English, Spanish and French.
The ICN nursing education network has chosen to focus on initiatives to scale up nursing education at this network meeting. This was in response to the recognition that a severe lack of health professionals leaves millions of people without access to appropriate health services. The World Health Assembly passed a resolution in 2006 calling on all Member States to contribute to a rapid scale-up of the production of health workers. Through subsequent policy work and in particular the work of the Independent Commission on Education of Health Professionals for the 21st Century, it was identified that producing more health professionals alone would not be sufficient and that what was needed was a health workforce with the right competencies to respond to populations’ evolving needs. Members of the network core steering group will share information from their region’s perspectives related to the transformative scale up of nursing education to be followed by participant dialogue on the issues to be considered globally. The core steering group will also share information on the status of the network and get input re future directions from network members.
We hope those with an interest in nursing education who are attending the Melbourne conference will be able to join us at this meeting.
