Education Network Meeting in May

As part of the ICN Conference May 3-7 in Malta, there will be a 90 minute meeting of the Education Network. Due to the limited time frame for discussion, I need you to tell me the most important questions that may be addressed during this meeting. One of the themes that continue to come through is the shortage of qualified nurse educations in many countries. Perhaps there are best practices regarding addressing this issue that have positive results in your regions. The Steering Committee will use your responses to organize the meeting.

Re the ICN meeting in May.
There are two items I suggest could be explored
1. Strategic directions for the NETWORK

2.Is there a place for the NETWORK to conduct a pre or post ICN meeting and workshop for members at future conferences. Perhaps similar to INDEN where there is an opportunity for papers to be presented and ? a workshop for students researching in this area. Such forums could provide opportunites for further internalional collaboration and problem solving initatives at a global level.

Thank you for your interest. Your recommendation is certainly doable. We are in the process of inviting a speaker for the Malta meeting. In the future, we can invite papers for discussion. Thank you very much for your suggestion.

Update on Network meeting

The meeting will take place from 15:00 to 16:20 hours in Cotoner Hall
Moderator: Virginia Adams (Network Chair)
Speakers: David Benton (ICN), Linda Burnes Bolton (USA)

This will be the first meeting of the network since its launch so it is important for the core steering group to be able to share information on the status of the network and its future plans and to get input re future directions form network members.

In addition, the network meeting will include a panel discussion on shaping the future of nursing education: two key reports. With the new international realities of migration dissolving borders between countries, advanced communication technology, global health care and a worldwide nursing shortage, preparing a diverse nursing workforce has become a critical priority. The report from the US based Institute of Medicine released in October 2010 "The Future of Nursing, Leading Change Advancing Health and the paper published in Lancet in November 2010 "Health Professionals for a New Century: Transforming Health Systems in an Interdependent World” both call for transformation of nursing education and make recommendations for change. Speakers on each of these papers will present briefly on the major findings and recommendations of the research that may be of interest to an international audience of nursing educators. This will be followed by a panel discussion facilitated by the Chair of the Network, Virginia Adams.

We hope those with an interest in nursing education who are attending the Malta conference will be able to join us at this meeting.
