With over 2.2 million cases, India accounts for nearly 25% of the entire Global TB burden and as such is an important focus for the ICN TB Project. The Indian Nursing Council became an official member of ICN in 2012 which is when they formally joined the Project although an initial workshop was run at the National Institute of TB and Respiratory Diseases in Delhi in 2009 to introduce the ICN TB methodology and materials. INC has been working with Futures Group for a number of years on training nurses and assistant nurse midwives (ANMs) on HIV with support from the Global Fund for AIDS, TB and Malaria and they have now received an extension to focus on TB. ICN is assisting with material development and pilot training and will be offering technical assistance during phase 3 with particular emphasis on pre-service education and infection prevention and control.
