ICNP® Translations

Translations are essential for implementing ICNP® in practice. The translations are usually accomplished on a voluntary basis by nurses in cooperation with the National Nursing Association. At the beginning of any translation project, ICN asks that the ICNP® Programme be contacted so that permission to translate ICNP® can be granted and a Translation Agreement can be signed: Permission to use ICNP®.

Translation Guidelines for International Classification for Nursing Practice (ICNP®) are now available. The Guidelines provide conceptual information about translation, methods of translation and cross-cultural equivalence. This is followed by more specific guidelines/directions for translation which are designed to support nurses and others who work on translation of ICNP® to their own language: ICNP® Translation Guidelines.

Please contact the ICNP® Programme for further information on translations.
