Chair: Yasmin Yehia

Hello all! I am the chair of the core steering group of the student's network. I am Yasmin Yehia and I am from Cairo, Egypt. I am studying nursing at the British University in Egypt. This is my second major, as I am a dentist and got a bachelor degree in oral medicine and dental surgery. I am very interested and involved in my country in humanitarian work, especially with mentally challenged children and that was the main reason why I decided to join the nursing faculty. It is a tool that will enable me to help those in needs, anywhere and anytime efficiently and effectively. I hope by joining the core steering group I will interact with my peers all over the world, and open a window through which I can see different perspectives and ideas regarding global and international issues that concern us as nursing students. I wish we all would share with each other our ideas and experience through participating in the network's discussions and topics. Thank you all so much.

Vice Chair: Carylin M. Holsey

Greetings fellow nursing students! I am a nursing student at the University of Texas at Arlington pursing my Bachelor of Science (BSN) in nursing degree. I live in Pearland, Texas USA. Pearland is just outside the borders of Houston! I am the current President of the National Student Nurses' Association (NSNA), 2010 – 2011. My passion and purpose are directly aimed to reduce health disparities on an international canvas. I lead and participate in international medical missions and create opportunities and awareness about the global concerns of vulnerable populations.I am both excited and motivated to seek and share the nursing student perspective regarding topics such as education, diversity and the future of nursing. I have had the pleasure and the benefit of being elected to serve on the Board of Directors of NSNA for two consecutive years and want to share the experiences, information and leadership skills gathered with the global nursing student community. My heartfelt task as a part of this committee is to reach and empower nursing students and beyond the traditional classroom about the future of nursing using available information, tools, partnerships, conversations and interventions that impact the nursing community and the people we will care for. Additionally, creating an international platform for best practice and information sharing among nursing students is the premiere purpose of my participation in the Core Group. Increasing cultural awareness, participation in professional organizations after program completion and fostering lifelong learning & leadership continuity coupled with personal growth is key to all of us entering the ultimate career of a lifetime – Nursing!. Let's grow this network together!

Members at Large:

Judit Kyed Jensen

Hi, my name is Judit Kyed Jensen. I am a 24 year old female student nurse from Denmark. I am currently living in Copenhagen, the Capital of Denmark. I was elected president of our student nurses organization in Denmark. I have taken a leave of absence from school, and am concentrating fully on student politics this year. I have completed 2 and a half year of my bachelor at the second largest nursing school in Denmark - Aarhus nursing School.I grew up in a small town, in the countryside. My father is a professor, Dr. Teol. at Aarhus University, and my mother is the local minister of my hometown, it is through being with her, and seeing the importance of social care and interaction with people in need, that I found my passion for nursing. Student politics have always been of great concern for me, and since my time in public school I have been active in student organizations. Being a part of SLS (The Danish Student Nurses Organization) has given me great personal experience, and my dedication in SLS has strengthened my professional identity and competence. My interest and purpose in joining the Core Group is to strengthen the network and to increase the knowledge of the Student network. I want to help create a forum, were student nurses from all over the world can exchange experiences and discuss challenges in their daily life as a student nurse. The network should, as I see it, be a place where the student can discuss how the conditions of student nurses can be improved and maybe on a long term make statements on student nurses education.

Kindra Scanlon

Hello and nice to meet you! My name is Kindra Scanlon and I am a student at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) in Portland, Oregon. My goals are global health in the context of sustainable solutions for health promotion and disease prevention both nationally and internationally. I am passionate about working within rural communities and ultimately want to become a Nurse Practitioner. OHSU has a strong global health program and I currently take graduate level global health classes (current taking a Global Health Epidemiology course) in addition to my undergraduate coursework. Until mid-April 2011, I also serve on the National Student Nurses Association (NSNA) board of Directors as Imprint Editor and I am Chapter President for the OHSU Student Nurses Association. Leadership, for me, has always been a path of service. I lead to have the opportunity to work with others and serve those in need. In addition, I am on the implementation group for GlobalOregon, an organization committed to global sustainable solutions through collaboration with the cultural community needs as paramount. Because my father worked for an international humanitarian non-governmental organization, I grew up travelling and enjoy learning new languages. I believe in the ethics of respect, care and the cultural needs of my patients. We are all beautiful and unique in our own ways and finding ways that we can successfully tackle health issues within the cultural context of communities is a key focus as the world becomes more connected. Communication is key I believe, as a result. I look forward to meeting you and I appreciate this opportunity!
