  • 25 April is World Malaria Day:

Rare in temperate climates, Malaria is prevalent in tropical and subtropical regions such as sub-Saharan Africa, Southeast Asia and South America. Typically transmitted by mosquito bites and infecting blood cells the parasites spread rapidly. If diagnosed early, treatment can be effective but poverty and remoteness mean that at-risk communities lack the appropriate knowledge and means to receive the right treatment at the right time. As a result, the flu-like symptoms are too often overlooked, causing the death of over one million people each year and targeting primarily children under five.  This year’s theme is “End Malaria for Good” and raises awareness on the need to invest in and deploy coverage to those most affected to eradicate and control the disease.
