[Excerpt from author] This paper reviews recent innovations in education for human resources for health. The paper is structured as follows. First I will briefly address the rationale of human resources for health (HRH) education. This issue will also be dealt with by other JLI working groups so the outcomes of their elaborations may impact on the context for this paper. Second, I will identify some shortcomings in HRH education. Based on those, I will address the global contents of educational programmes and analyse some trends. Finally, recent changes in didactic approaches used in HRH educational programmes will be analysed. The paper will conclude with an evaluation of innovations and a set of recommendations.
