[Excerpt from publisher] It is essential that nurses' associations, governments and other bodies facilitate career development for nurses by means of articulated educational and career systems that provide opportunities for nurses to move from one category to another, or to other positions within or outside the health care system. To develop such systems, it is necessary to identify the core of knowledge, skills, attitudes and scientific principles for nursing practice.
