  • Abstract
The number of children who need complicated nursing care at home has constantly increased as medical technologies progress. Looking after the children with severe motor and intellectual disabilities (SMIDS) could be a major burden for the family members, required to obtain any skills for their children. A severe shortage of nurses leads this more problematic such as suctioning at special need schools, kindergartens, and institutions for SMIDS. However the law in Japan prohibits suctioning strictly for nurses and doctors, in 2005, Japanese Nursing Association produced a manual about medical care for teachers at special need schools, and actually authorized teachers to do suctioning for children with endotracheal tubes. This research aims to extract experienced nurses’ techniques in relation to tracheal suctioning for skill education. The movements of 4 nurses in two institutions were video-taped as they were providing the suctioning techniques. The data is going to be construed and analyzed by ICNP®, an international classification for nursing practice, in order to enhance confirmability and transferability.
