  • Abstract
This is a national research programme for nursing in the Republic of Ireland funded by the Irish Health Research Board. The primary investigator is Prof Anne Scott and the co-applicants are Prof Pearl Tracey, Dr Padraig MacNeela , and Dr Abby Hyde. The research project has two strands: To develop a nursing minimum dataset to conceptualise nursing in Ireland (2002-2005) and to review the process of judgement and clinical decision making within the sphere of nursing (2005-2006). Integral to this research programme is the development of a data dictionary to provide a road map for future development of a standardised data repository. This includes cross mapping the data elements of the Irish Nursing Minimum Dataset with ICNP Version 1 and ISO reference terminology model for nursing diagnosis and intervention ISO TC 18104. The objectives of completing this process of cross mapping are 1. To develop and define the data set elements to facilitate seamless integration with a national data depository in the future. 2. To ensure that the data set in the future will meet the terms of reference for national European and International standardised nursing language systems.
