The original topic of my study is ‘ANALYSIS OF THE COMPREHENSIVENESS OF THE ICNP, NANDA, NIC, and NOC FROM THE NARRATIVE NURSING RECORD.’ This study is going to map nursing narrative documents into the International Classification of Nursing Practice (ICNP), the North American Nurses Diagnosis Association (NANDA), Nursing Interventions Classification (NIC), and Nursing Outcomes Classification (NOC). The main purpose of this study is to investigate representativeness of the selected nursing languages and to estimate the extent of granularity of each nursing language for nursing practice. Specific aims include: 1) To compare the mapping of the ICNP and the linkage of NANDA, NIC, NOC with narrative nursing records, 2) To investigate the extent to which nurses use nursing process including nursing diagnoses, nursing interventions, and nursing outcomes, and 3) To estimate the capacity of structure of the ICNP® and the linkage of NANDA, NIC, and NOC for making billing codes of nursing care. This study has received the IRB approval and the target hospital permission. For the data analysis, the ICNP® Version 1 released in 2005 will be used. First, based on definitions of each term of the ICNP®, nursing narratives will be mapped into the ICNP with a text-mining technology. Another expert who is working on research related to the ICNP-will work with the results of the mappings for expert validity of mapping consistency. It is expected that this study will help support the value of the use of standardized nursing languages and updating the comprehensiveness of each languages for describing nursing practice.
