The Order of Nurses, Midwives and Medical Assistants in Romania (OAMGMAMR) is the regulatory body for nurses, midwives and medical assistants in Romania.
The organization is founded on the basis of a law, The Emergency Ordinance 144/2008, which represents the professional requirements for nurses, midwives and medical assistants throughout Romania.
The organization maintains the Register of qualified nurses, midwives and medical assistants in Romania and issues the authorization to practice for its members. In order to practice, the registration is compulsory.
OAMGMAMR is the professional jurisdiction organism, the sole Romanian organization in this field that has the right to monitor professional conduct of nurses, midwives and medical assistants in Romania, for the benefit of the public.
The Emergency Ordinance 144/2008 also states that OAMGMAMR is the Romanian competent authority, along with the Ministry of Health, for elaboration of legislation regarding the professions of nurse, midwife and medical assistant, documents that are related to organizing professional courses, as well as to establishing the norms and standards for practice.
For the first time in Romania, OAMGMAMR defined the Professional Status of nurses, midwives and medical assistants. OAMGMAMR also elaborated the first Code of Ethics and Deontology of nurses, midwives and medical assistants in Romania. OAMGMAMR has 42 branches and counts 122.000 members.
